A note from the organizer

Irina Gramer Dr med vet MRCVS DipECVIM-CA (Oncology), European Specialist in Small Animal Oncology

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to the third Oncology Camp in August 2022. I am hopeful that a face-to-face event will be possible again.

The third Oncology Camp will focus on endocrine tumours, management of oncological patients with endocrine disease and the use of novel therapies as rescue option. Aside from discussion of basic statistics, cancer biology and radiobiology the exam session has been extended to include oral and written exam prep.

For those of you who do not know me – I completed my residency at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Liverpool, in March 2017. The residency programme was well-structured and work-load intense as I am sure yours is as well. Sometimes it is a real challenge to combine clinical expectations with study and exam preparations. The Oncology Camp aims to give you that space! Since my residency I worked at Davies Veterinary Specialists and joined the RVC as Service Head in 2019 – these have all been valuable experiences.

I strongly believe that a training camp for residents and interns would provide more in-depth knowledge besides available congresses that often focus on abstract presentations. As we all know, a residency can be stressful, work-load intense and exhausting and I felt it is important to create that safe environment for oncology residents and ‘residents-to-be’ to study exam relevant topics intensively, ask questions you may not be comfortable asking elsewhere, refresh your knowledge in specific areas and also to meet fellow colleagues and specialists.

Some of you are looking to sit the certifying exam soon and are looking for further ways to intensify your knowledge and ask questions about its process. Others of you may toy with the idea of undertaking a residency in which case the Oncology Camp offers great opportunities to meet different people and chat about the residency process. Others may be faced with daily challenges in an oncological based practice and wish to intensify knowledge. Do not be shy to ask questions and participate!

The Camp will provide a wonderful forum for you to refresh and strengthen your knowledge, prepare for upcoming exams and offer plenty of networking opportunities with leading specialists, practitioners, friends and colleagues, as well as sponsors.

Please return to the website frequently for updates with programme and speaker details.

I hope to see you all soon!
